Hi guys,
For those of you who were not at team dinner last Saturday, we collectively decided that we wanted to re-vamp schedule team practices and make them more structured. To do so, it'd be great if all those attending team practice arrive at 7:15 (15 minutes before the time when practice officially starts) so that you can warm up and set up tables if necessary, and so that we can figure out who will be training with who that evening.
Thanks and hope to see you tonight!

Hi everyone,
We will be having a team pizza party this Saturday night at 7:00 PM at 680. We will be celebrating the end of a successful season, and will also elect new club officials. Please RSVP and let me know if you're coming, and what kind of pizza you like. For example, Raghu is a vegetarian. If you are also an herbivore, please let me know so that we can accommodate you.
Thanks,
Shimon

Event this Friday @ 7pm -- Need Volunteers
by shimonk, 2008-04-16 17:35:20
Hi Team,
I just wanted to send out a quick e-mail about an event that is taking place in Burnham (the main gym adjacent to Ford Center) this Friday starting at 7:30pm. Our team is hosting an elite league event, one leg of the elite division of the Bay Area Table Tennis Federation -- our club has a team entered in a non-elite division. Anyway, this is a fundraising event for our club in addition to a small donation that the BATTF is giving our club, so it'd be great if we could have some volunteers representing the club arriving there Friday around 7-7:15pm. You can leave whenever you need to go.
We need volunteers to collect the entrance fee from spectators, 100% of which goes directly to our club. I kindly request that any team member who has been subsidized this year for some kind of tournament to show up if they can, and would think it's great if anyone else can make it as well. If you can't be there before 7:30 to help out, no worries -- but feel free to drop by anyway since the table tennis action should be pretty good to watch as well.
Thanks!

Practice tonight
by shimonk, 2008-04-14 11:40:00
Hey guys,
Those of us that attended nationals are quite exhausted, and have a lot of catching up to do on work and such. As a result, it is unlikely that any of us, including Fernando, will be at practice tonight. However, there will still be practice for those who want to attend. The team dinner will likely be held in the next couple of weeks, so please email me if you have special requests for dates.
Thanks, and see you all on Wednesday,
Shimon

Nationals Results
by shimonk, 2008-04-14 11:38:00
Hi everyone,
The representatives from the Co-Ed and Women's table tennis teams that went to nationals returned late last night from Rochester, Minnesota. Below are the results:
The Stanford Women's team overcame adversity to once again dominate, finishing second in the nation to Texas Wesleyan in a hard fought finals. This makes three years running that the Women's team has finished in the top two in the nation, twice in second and once in first. Despite her illness, and playing on an ankle she sprained in one of her matches at the tournament, Whitney Ping still managed to lead the team all the way to the finals without losing a single match. In addition, our very own Sally Schoenfeld made an astonishing series of comebacks to finish second in the ACUI Women's singles consolation bracket, a truly remarkable feat that made her the only Stanford player to receive a trophy for individual play this year.
The Co-Ed team made a very strong showing as well. The team won its first round robin match in a fifth game doubles victory over a very strong Columbia team. However, after losing a heartbreaking match to Washington that resulted in a three-way tie for second in their round robin, the team was unfortunately relegated to the 19th-24th place consolation bracket. The team went on to finish out the tournament strong, winning the bracket and finishing 19th in the country.
Special acknowledgment and thanks must be given to our volunteer coach Fernando Chang, who flew all the way to Minnesota with the team just to coach us. He was at every match Stanford played, and was instrumental in securing victories for both of the teams.
Thanks very much,
Shimon |
