Jobs

Synergy is a co-op, which means that we don't hire anyone to clean up after us, cook for us, or manage our beautiful garden. Since magical fairies have proved unwilling to come do these things for us for free, we have to do them ourselves. That's probably okay, because as they say, if you want a job done right...

There are quite a few things that have to happen to keep a house the size of Synergy running, and our system divides them into three categories: weekly, quarterly, and end-of-quarter (EOQ) jobs.

Weekly Jobs

These are the meat (tofu?) and potatoes of house tasks, things like cooking food and cleaning the kitchen. Weekly jobs are so called because everyone does one per week. You pick a new job each week by signing up for a slot on the job board? on Thursday night. A job tile? with your name on it serves as your placeholder, letting everyone on your clean crew know, for instance, that they're going to be rocking the FUCK out of the kitchen on Tuesday night. There's a bunch of different weekly jobs at different and flexible times, so you can always find one to suit your needs for that week.

• Dinner cook?
• After-dinner clean?
• Pre-dinner clean?
• Bread bake?
• Garden
• Beans or Hummus
• Granola
• Restock?
• House Surprise
• Beer brewing?

Quarterly Jobs

There are four kinds of quarterly jobs, and you sign up for one of each type each quarter. (It's best to get on it quick, so you have some choice before things fill up!) These jobs are mostly to help limit the random messes that accumulate over the course of the week, and are critical to keeping Synergy a happy and beautiful place to live. All quarterly jobs (except Headcook) happen on a specific day of the week, and are done with a crew of 4 to 5 fellow Synners.

Quarterly jobs include:

• Wednesday bathroom clean?
• Saturday kitchen clean?
• Sunday house clean?
• Headcook?

End-Of-Quarter Jobs

Like it or not, a little bit of funk tends to accumulate over the course of the quarter. EOQ's are a deep clean of the entire house, with the dual benefit of making it beautiful for next quarter and keeping the university from fining us bigtime. EOQ signups happen sometime before Dead Week, and the jobs themselves go right up until the last person leaves the house. Like quarterly jobs, EOQ's take about three hours.
