Manager Selection Process

Policy

  1. The Default Model for selecting next year's Synergy management staff is a consensus process solely among the potential managers, facilitated by one or more current Synergy Managers.
    • All aspects of this model -- including selection process, choice of facilitator, rules for outside participation, etc. -- can be modified by the potential managers.
    • Modifications would first need to be consented? to using the Default Model.
  2. Regardless of the chosen process, the group of prospective managers must deliver a weekly report, in some form, to the Synergy community regarding the status and progress of the selection process.
    • It is strongly recommended that potential managers also use this report to ask the Synergy community for input or advice to help guide them.
  3. This Default Model for management selection was chosen by consensus of Synergy House on February 13, 2006.
    • While individual teams of potential managers may, in a given year, choose a different process for themselves (see clause 1.1), the Default Model will remain the starting point each year until such time that Synergy as a whole consents to a change.
  4. Potential managers will wear chicken costumes to meetings.

Techniques

Some techniques that may be usefully employed by the prospective managers in the course of their selection process:

  1. Create a grid with positions along the columns and names along the rows, expressing personal preferences for each position with a rank number (top 3) or solid circle (love it), hollow circle (like it), or x (wouldn't do it).
  2. Homework assignments between meetings to come up with slates of managers
  3. Going around the circle and each person advocates for another to be a manager
  4. Saying one person you think is especially fit for a particular position
  5. Saying one person who you want to see on the management staff no matter what position
