Dear Colleagues,

Pepperdine University is pleased to announce the 2006 Pepperdine Invitational Debates to be hosted on our campus January 20-22, 2006.
The tournament will offer six preliminary rounds of C-X debate, parliamentary debate and Lincoln Douglas debate, as well as appropriate elimination rounds in both varsity and novice divisions
as entries determine..
The tournament will be held on the main Malibu Campus, located on the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway.
We think you will find the competition good, the location great and the weekend enjoyable!

HOTEL:  The designated tournament hotel is the Hilton in Woodland Hills. The facility is outstanding and the rate of $74/night for double rooms with up to 4 people is unheard of in the area!
The block expires a month before the tournament, so please get your reservations in early.  Rooms are being held in a block called Pepperdine Debate Tournament and reservations can be
made by calling 818-595-1000.  You should make reservations well in advance. If our block fills or you attempt to make reservations after the block has closed,
your options will be very limited and quite expensive.

ENTRIES:  Please be aware that Pepperdine is a SMALL school. We will take entries on a first come basis, but we can only accommodate a limited number of teams.
Additional entries will be placed on a waiting list in the order they arrive. Please enter early!
Entries will be accepted through the Bruschke system online (at www.debateresults.com) or via email (sue.peterson@pepperdine.edu).
No phone or fax entries will be accepted.  When using the online entry system, please print out your entry and bring to registration for verification purposes.
Any changes should be submitted online or via email as well.  Entries are due no later than Monday, January 16, 2006.

TRANSPORTATION:  The closest airport is Los Angeles International Airport, although Burbank is also relatively close.
The hotel and campus are approximately 30 minutes north of LAX. Unfortunately we cannot provide local transportation, but there are a variety of rental car agencies available at the airport.
The Hilton is located just off the 101 Interstate. From LAX take the 405 freeway North to the 101 North/West. Exit the 101 on Canoga and head North (right).
The hotel will be on your right side just past the Cheesecake Factory.

UNIVERSITY:  The University is located at the Corner of Malibu Canyon Road and the Pacific Coast Highway (24255 Pacific Coast Highway).
To get to campus from the Hotel, go right out of the hotel parking lot, turn left at the light, then left on Topanga Canyon. Take the 101 West/North towards Ventura.
Exit on Las Virgenes and turn left – this road turns into Malibu Canyon. The campus is about 8 miles through the canyon. The drive is beautiful, but a little curvy.
Please be careful! Plan on the trip taking half an hour. It should be less but traffic can be bad through the canyon and on the 101.
When you arrive on campus, stop at the information booth to receive directions to the buildings on campus and get a token for the parking lot.
The majority of the debates will be on lower campus.

CAMPUS POLICIES: The Pepperdine Campus is a smoke-free campus. There is no smoking in ANY building on campus.
PLEASE abide by this policy so that we may continue to use these facilities in subsequent years. The Pepperdine campus is also a drug and alcohol free campus.

FEES:  Fees will be $75 per CX team, $50 per Parliamentary team and $35 per LD entry. These fees include breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
Lunch will be available for purchase from the cafeteria on campus both days.

JUDGING: Each school is expected to provide one judge per two teams/debaters they bring. Each judge will be obligated for one round beyond the elimination of their team.
We have some hired judges that we can provide, but not many. Hired judges will be given on a first come, first served basis at a fee of  $125 per uncovered CX entry, $75 for uncovered
LD/parli/public forum entries. We are not trying to make money on hired judges. We would much rather have your judges than your money. If you have extra judges available from your school please
let me know as we would probably like to hire them. All judges are expected to render a decision in a timely fashion and designate one, and only one, team as the winner of the debate.

TOPICS:  We will debate the official NFL CX topic for 2004-2005 and the January-February National Forensics League topic for Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
