Temperature

Summary

The ASHRAE Standard 55-2017 recommends controlling temperature between 67 and 82 F. This range shifts depending on the season, permitting warmer temperatures during the summer and lower temperatures during the winter. Operating temperature should always be maintained when human occupancy is present, however HVAC systems can be turned off or reduced during non-operating hours. It is important to note that turning off HVAC systems during non-occupancy may save energy, but depending on external conditions, more energy may be required to meet operating conditions once occupancy begins again.

Natural ventilation is heavily dependent on location, environmental conditions, and building shape and size. If conditions are optimal, natural ventilation is a comparable alternative or potential temporary replacement for mechanical ventilation.
